Blown-In Insulation in Colorado
Complete coverage for maximum efficiency
Level Up Insulation Co. installs blown-in insulation in attics, walls, and floor cavities across Colorado. We’re BPI certified, an Xcel Energy rebate partner, and we almost always recommend pairing blown-in installation with professional attic air sealing — because insulation without air sealing leaves the most important problem unsolved.
What Is Blown-In Insulation?
Two types are commonly used in Colorado:
- Blown-In Fiberglass — Lightweight, non-combustible, and moisture-resistant. Less settling over time than cellulose. Excellent for attics and wall cavities in dry Colorado climates.
- Blown-In Cellulose — Made from recycled paper, treated with borate for fire and pest resistance. Slightly higher density gives it better air resistance in wall applications. The same borate treatment used in our TAP pest control insulation.
Both types can reach the R-49 to R-60 target required by Colorado’s 2021 IECC energy code for Front Range attics. If your goal is maximum pest deterrence alongside insulation performance, ask us about pest control insulation (TAP) — it uses the same blown-in process with EPA-registered borate treatment.
Benefits of Blown-In Insulation for Colorado Homes
- Fills every nook and cranny — no gaps, voids, or thermal bridges around irregular framing
- Adds R-value on top of existing attic insulation without removal in most cases
- Installs without opening walls — blown in through small drilled holes that are patched after
- Class 1 fire rated — both cellulose and fiberglass meet fire resistance standards
- Borate-treated cellulose deters insects and rodents as a secondary benefit
- Qualifies for Xcel Energy, Tri-State, and Black Hills Energy rebate programs in Colorado
Where Is Blown-In Insulation Used?
- Attic floors — the most common application in Colorado. Works with or without existing insulation. If you're also scheduling attic air sealing we always seal first, then blow in.
- Enclosed wall cavities — blown in through small drilled access holes from the exterior or interior
- Cathedral ceilings — dense-pack cellulose fills roof rafter bays completely
- Floor cavities above unconditioned spaces, including above unencapsulated crawl spaces
For crawl spaces specifically, blown-in insulation in floor cavities is only a partial solution. A complete crawl space encapsulation addresses the moisture problem that makes blown-in floor insulation less effective in the first place.
What R-Value Do I Need in Colorado?
- Denver Metro (Climate Zone 5): R-49 minimum, R-60 recommended
- Fort Collins / Greeley (Zone 5/6 border): R-49 to R-60
- Colorado Springs (Zone 5): R-49 minimum
- Mountain communities (Zone 6–7): R-60 minimum strongly recommended
Blown-In vs. Spray Foam: Which Is Right for Your Attic?
Spray foam insulation provides superior air-sealing and a higher R-value per inch — it’s the right choice when you need a conditioned attic assembly, moisture control at the roof deck, or maximum performance in a limited space. Blown-in insulation provides excellent R-value per dollar for attic floor applications, especially when combined with proper attic air sealing first. The combination of air sealing + blown-in delivers 85–90% of the energy performance benefit of spray foam at a significantly lower installation cost. For most Colorado homeowners upgrading an existing attic, that’s the right call.
How Much Does Blown-In Insulation Cost in Colorado?
- Blown-in fiberglass or cellulose in attics: priced per square foot installed
- Most residential attics (1,200–2,000 sq ft): priced per square foot, depending on target R-value
- Dense-pack wall insulation priced per square foot depending on access method
Xcel Energy rebates are available for qualifying blown-in insulation projects in Colorado. Level Up Insulation handles all rebate paperwork as a registered partner. If you’re also considering insulation removal before re-insulating, we handle both in sequence and provide a combined project estimate.
